Care Home Assistant Practitioner (CHAPs) Training Course
Welcome to our CHAPs (Care Home Assistant Practitioner) training information. This programme of training is designed to empower the senior care practitioners within your care setting with all the necessary clinical and managerial expertise, aligning closely with the curriculum of registered nursing courses.
The CHAPs role is an innovative response to a real challenge unfolding in the care sector. This relatively new initiative will enable your healthcare professionals to collaborate with nursing colleagues, assuming additional responsibilities, thereby addressing the critical shortage of nurses prevalent in the care sector.
Entry Requirements
To qualify for this course, individuals will need to already have practical experience working as a care assistant.
Training to be a Care Home Assistant Practitioner requires intensive training and the completion of assessments, so it is important that the individual is self-motivated and has drive and enthusiasm for furthering their clinical and managerial knowledge and skills.
Our CHAPS training programme spans ten consecutive weeks, featuring one full day of in-person training per week utilising a blend of face to face and zoom Throughout this duration, participants will engage in the following:

Dysphagia
Enteral and Parenteral Administration
Record Keeping & Communication
Stoma Care
Oral Suctioning
Catheter Care
Basic Life Support
Diabetes, Blood Suger Monitoring and Insulin Administration
Venepuncture & Cannulation
Tissue Viability, Dressings, Wound Care and Pressure Relief
